TOURS & EXCURSIONS
Mae Klong Market, Damnoen Floating Market, Grand Palace, Emerald Buddha Temple, Reclining Buddha, Day trip to Phang-Nga Bay, Phuket Old Town
Mae Klong Market & Damnoen Floating Market
Mae Klong railway market (Hoop Rom Market) is a local market in Samut Songkhram Province, commonly called Siang Tai (life-risking) Market. It is a common fresh market selling seafood, vegetable, fruits, fresh and dried food, meats and other miscellaneous goods. Mae Klong Railway Market is open from 6.00 a.m. -6.00 p.m. The market is called life-risking market because its stalls are attached to the Mae Klong-Ban Laem railway, which is a short railway line running from and to Mahachai and Mae Klong.
Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is one of Thailand’s largest and most famous floating markets, where vendors on boats sell local food and unique pieces—from kitchenware to clothing. Try the warm coconut pancakes, pad thai, boat noodles, and classic mango sticky rice as you float along the slender canals. You can find fresh fruits and vegetables here too. Don't forget to see the traditional wooden houses on stilts along the way. Seasoned travelers would suggest an early morning start to combat the heat and beat the crowd. Join a half-day tour on a long-tail speedboat or a paddle boat to explore the market. |
Grand Palace, Emerald Buddha Temple, and Reclining Buddha
The Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew) in the Grand Palace itself is the main attraction. A figurine of the meditating Buddha made from one solid piece of green jade, clothed in gold and diamonds. It is greatly revered from the Royal family to Thai nationals alike, as Thailand’s utmost precious religious icon.
The Grand Palace, once lived in by Kings is courtyards of countless majestic and all inspiring examples of exquisite Royal architecture through the millennia. The Reclining Buddha (Wat Pho) is located 700 meters south of The Grand Palace. It is a world-renowned 46 meter long gold plated reclining Buddha. Its pose represents entry into complete spiritual enlightenment ending all worldly reincarnations. Within the surrounding corridor there are 108 bronze bowls representing the 108 auspicious characteristics of The Buddha. It is believed dropping coins into these bowls brings wealth and prosperity. |
Day Trip to Phang-Nga Bay and Phuket Old Town
Phang Nga is famous for spectacular scenery with limestone cliffs rising out of green water. There are caves, lagoons and tiny secluded beaches awaiting discovery.
Phang Nga Bay's distinctive feature is the sheer limestone karsts that jut vertically out of the emerald-green water. James Bond Island and Koh Panyee are just 2 of the more famous spots in this bay. By far the best means of enjoying the spectacular scenery, with only brief encounters with the tourist crowds at James Bond and Koh Panyee, is by taking boat trips from the northern end of Phuket. Lively Phuket Old Town is known for brightly painted, century-old Sino-Portuguese townhouses, with a well-preserved row along Soi Rommanee. Main street Thalang Road has stores selling artisanal ice cream and batik fabrics and a Sunday market for souvenirs and street food like fried banana. The Thai Hua Museum features exhibits on Chinese immigrant culture, and Jui Tui Shrine displays colorful statues of Chinese gods. |
